Soft*Ice products are designed to go directly from the freezer to their designated body part. By combining water with a non-toxic solution, we provide a comfortable, long term cold therapy device that is malleable directly from the freezer. Soft*Ice was formed with the goal to fill the void for the diminishing post-operative support utilizing cold therapy in patient care. Soft*Ice seeks to provide the optimal therapeutic benefits of cryotherapy while at the same time, provide a business component that serves the necessity of maintaining a cost effective surgical center environment. Soft*Ice is the answer to many difficult logistical circumstances encountered in present healthcare conditions.

There is remaining hesitation to employ post op cold therapy due to the inefficiencies and impracticality of sweating ice bags that require continual monitoring to prevent wet dressings and bedding post-operatively. Furthermore, mechanical cooling units called "cold flow units" (which continuously circulates cool water within your surgical dressing), are no long a viable logistical alternative due to high cost and declined insurance coverage. In providing adequate cold therapy theoretically, this modality requires constant patient monitoring, compliance with extensive instructions, and is absolutely cost prohibited (generally over $125.00 to the clinic and $500.00+ billed to the patient's insurance).

Cost prohibited to the extent that insurance companies which used to pay for these devices regularly no longer do so. The cost is either absorbed by the surgery center or passed on to the patient. Many surgeons use to utilize this method on virtually all of their patients. However, since Medicare decided to discontinue reimbursement for cryotherapy devices, and most other insurance companies followed suit many patients have ended up footing the bill for this modality out-of-pocket. This often leaves a retrospective lasting opinion of consternation in the patient's post-operative care experience provided by the surgery center and/or physician.
