Project Description

AVID Device From Custom Spine

AVID pic (1)Description:

Implantation of the AVID device offers an elegant less invasive approach for supplemental fixation (T1 – S1) than traditional pedicle screw fixation as an adjunct to interbody fusion. The familiar midline approach minimizes muscle and soft tissue stripping and allows for an efficient and rigid solution for posterior instrumentation. (The AVID is not intended for stand-alone use.)

Key Benefits:

MINIMAL SOFT TISSUE TRAUMA

  • No need to strip paraspinal muscles out to the transverse processes.
  • Reduced muscle dissection may lead to less scarring, less postoperative pain and a quicker recovery.
  • Option to preserve the supraspinous/interspinous ligaments.
  • The AVID device can be implanted through an incision as small as 3 cm.

MINIMAL COMPLEXITY

  • AVID device placement circumvents traditional pedicle screw placement that often disrupts the adjacent level facet, a factor hypothesized to accelerate adjacent segment disease.
  • Implantation of the AVID device avoids neural and vascular elements, thereby avoiding risks associated with misplaced pedicle screws.

MINIMAL SURGERY

  • Reduced anesthesia time.
  • Reduced blood loss.
  • Reduced radiation exposure.
